Jessica and Joe were among the first clients to receive services from Community Bridges Parenting Services. Although they could only participate for a short while because their youngest child had just turned one, they were thrilled to discover that the state of Oklahoma offered assistance to young families like theirs.
Jessica and Joe had both experienced difficult marriages in the past. Joe’s previous marriage had resulted in a son with learning disabilities and severe, emotional challenges. Jessica had grown up in a broken home and Joe had spent much of his childhood in foster care, experiencing numerous negative and traumatic events.
The couple sought help from Community Bridges Parenting Services to learn how to navigate the challenges of raising a child with serious learning disabilities while also caring for their own baby. They also wanted to build a healthy family dynamic.
Over the course of a few months, I witnessed Jessica and Joe grow closer and develop practical strategies to handle their older child’s challenging behavior. They also prepared for their upcoming wedding.
One of the highlights was being able to provide them with much-needed material resources that eased their financial burden. Both parents worked hard in blue-collar jobs but struggled to make ends meet.
They were grateful to receive free items and ultimately were able to repair their vehicle through the Learn-To-Earn program, which recognized the time they had invested in improving their parenting skills.
Thanks to the program, Jessica was able to resume her photography business, and the couple went from struggling to continue as a family to thriving and committed to their future together. This program transformed their lives and gave them hope for a brighter future.
